What is the Southeast Watershed Leadership
Train-the-Trainer Academy?

The Academy is an intensive three-day training workshop to provide the resources, information, and tools to train watershed leaders from the region on open space protection, land use protection strategies, and habitat restoration. The purpose of the Academy is to provide the knowledge and skills to train individuals who will commit to train at least four other organizations in their community over the next year.

Through lectures, small work-group sessions, and a field trip, the participants were provided information, resources and tools on land use protection and water quality protection strategies.  Workshop sessions addressed the following topics:  effects of urbanization on water resources; basic tools for watershed protection; introduction to site design and best management practices; integrating regulatory programs through watershed protection; floodplain management and community liability; building community consensus for land use change; and building a common vision.

Attendees receive an extensive notebook, a facilitator's manual and CDs as well as additional reference materials on best practices. Certificates are offered documenting 20 hours of study.
