New Website Launched to Help Middle TN Landowners

The Southeast Watershed Forum announces that a new tool in land and water conservation has been launched to help landowners in Williamson County. The online conservation planning tool at www.conservemyland.org, is designed as a pilot to help landowners at the rural-urban interface where the pressures for land development are greatest. It provides assistance on farmland preservation strategies and best management practices. The tool provides video case studies, tutorials, fact sheets and personal assistance from project partners. If successful, project partners hope to expand it to statewide use. |

July 1, 2009 (from the Washington Post) - Set among the rolling green hills of Loudoun County, Jim Dunlap's farm hasn't changed much since the 1780s. The original fieldstone farmhouse, designed by William Penn, is still there, albeit larger after two additions. So is the stone smokehouse and a spring house. There are peach trees, raspberry bushes and vegetables. If Isaac James, a former owner and the great-grandfather of outlaw Jesse, were to visit, he would see just one real difference: SnowBear Farm is now the only farm in sight. EPA Announces Energy Star Homes Reach Nearly 17 Percent Market Share for 2008

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced today that nearly 17 percent of all single-family homes built nationally in 2008 earned EPA’s Energy Star label, up from 12 percent in 2007. Both home builders and home buyers are continuing to invest in high performing homes that save consumers money on their utility bills and help protect the environment.
